Donations

If, like us, you want to raise money to fund research into finding a cure for cancer, then here are some ways you can do this:

Donate Money

If you would like to send us money, we regret we are currently unable to accept credit cards, but you can send us a cheque, made payable to Cancer Research UK.
Contact us and our Treasurer will give you the address to send it to. Please make sure you let us have your name and address so that we can acknowledge receipt and send you a nice thank you note. If you wish to donate online, make regular donations, or find out about other ways to donate, then please visit the Cancer Research UK website for further information. Alternatively, Bridgwater and District Friends of Cancer Research UK has a page on My Projects.

Donate Goods

We are always looking for Raffle, Tombola and Bingo prizes, as well as good quality books and bric-a-brac for our stalls. We also collect bags of clothes and textiles, so if you are having a clear out, or have finished a car boot sale and don’t want to take unsold clothes home, then please
contact us so we can supply you with the appropriate bags. You can either take the filled bags to your nearest Cancer Research UK shop, or we can arrange to collect them from you. We are able to provide a donation station for large companies to place in their reception or staff room and when this has been filled we can arrange collection. We are also grateful for any items that are of really good quality or value that we can sell on ebay to raise funds. Perhaps you love making cakes and would be willing to supply some for one of our events? Or maybe you are an arty/crafty type and could make cards or jewellery for us to sell?

Donate Time

By Joining Us: We are always happy to welcome new members to our committee. We are a small, friendly, group who meet one evening a month to discuss new ideas and future events. If you would like to come along and find out more about what we do, then please
get in touch, so we can let you know when and where our next meeting will be. Don't be shy, whatever your age, interests, talents and experience, we're sure there will be something that you would enjoy getting involved with. Hopefully you will be inspired enough to join us!

By Helping Us: Alternatively, if you feel that you don't want to make a permanent commitment, but would just like to come along and help at some of our events occasionally, then that would be very welcome. There are always more jobs to do than helpers, whether it's setting out chairs, selling raffle tickets, serving refreshments, or just doing the washing up! We always need volunteers to help with collections. If you can just spare an hour or two occasionally to join our collections team, you will find it most rewarding to meet the public and hear the inspiring stories of both survivors and people touched by cancer. Every penny that you raise by standing holding a tin goes towards saving someone's life. Please
contact us if you would like to offer help, so we can have a chat to discuss what kind of voluntary work would suit you best.

By Attending Our Events: We run a wide range of events throughout the year, from a Dog Show to a Fashion Show, Duck Race, Bingo, Bric-a-Brac Stall, Games at Fetes and Fairs, Car Boots and Zumbathon, to mention a few. You can support us by coming along to our events and also by taking part in them. Take a look at our
current events to see what's on. You can also keep updated by joining us on Facebook.

By Running Your Own Event: Perhaps you would like to run an event of your own, maybe a dance, a coffee morning or a raffle? If you do, then we would be happy to help you by promoting the event on our website, provide posters and publicity material, sell tickets, or come along to support your event. Just
get in touch to let us know when and where your event is and what help you would need for it.

Donations In Celebration

If you are getting married, having a wedding anniversary party, special birthday party, or retirement do, and there is nothing that you particularly want in the way of gifts (Ruby wedding wine glasses, and engraved silver tankards aren't always that appreciated and you really don't need more than one toaster!!) you may wish to generously suggest to your family and friends that they donate to Cancer Research UK in lieu of gifts. A nice way of doing this is to have a 'Wishing Well', at the event where guests can post their cash donations, along with a message for the host. If you would like the loan of a Wishing Well for your event, please
let us know and we will supply one for you.

Donations In Memoriam

If you let your funeral director know that you would like to choose to have donations for charity instead of floral tributes, they can arrange for collection of these and pass the money on to us. We will acknowledge your donation in this way by sending you a notification of thanks and inform you of the sum raised. You may wish to simply make a personal donation in memory of a loved one, in which case you can send this directly to us and we will acknowledge your gift with a keepsake thank you card. Should you wish your donation to be used for research for a specific form of cancer, we can inform Cancer Research UK of your request when forwarding the money to them.

Sponsored Events

Just a one man band and want to do something on your own? Grow a beard, have your head shaved, cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats, do a bungee jump, go busking in the town centre, whatever mad, crazy, fun, idea you have to raise money, we are happy to support you and are able to help out with distributing sponsor forms and publicity and will make sure we get a nice photo of you handing us the big fat cheque after the event!!! Just
get in touch to tell us about your sponsored event in aid of Cancer Research UK and let us know how we can help.
